I have always attributed my poor health and pain to my age.
I'm 47 and have battled with diabetes since I was 19. As a result of these problems, I've found jumping rope to be very beneficial to my health. I skip around 200 jumps a day, usually in the parking lot. My hips, knees and ankles still need activity. I find that I have less pain on my knees when I jump.
One of the main reasons is that it has a very gentle nature to it. Also when I'm skipping I've learned to take it easy. I've been conditioned to believe that the slower you go, the more comfortable you are. While that is an argument used for all jump ropes, this is most true in my case. My knees, hips and ankles need rest. I like my heavy rope but low volume is a must. Jumping rope is good for my knees and it's good for my health. I would not jump my rope the way I did 20 years ago. I am working on that for my future. There is no question that jumping rope is good exercise for my body and I highly recommend it for anyone who's interested. I've gotten about 5000 jumps a year with my heavy rope. I never had any knee pain until three years ago, jumping at 100 skips per minute. Now I use a medium heavy rope and never even think about my knees. What a relief. I had to take some medications for a while and I have to take some arthritis meds now.

I really can't believe how much better my life has started to be. I am now able to jump my rope for recreation. I still have to take medication daily. I have been jumping rope for 7 years and riding for 5 years. I can't jump a speed rope though. I have been to a physical therapist, have had a couple of injections and am back to work full-time jumping now.
